About

Belong Art Community blossomed from a group of artists with a strong sense of identity, purpose, and social justice. Many of our residents are adults with developmental disabilities who embrace and celebrate who they are. Our community offers independent, private apartments in a walkable, transit-rich neighborhood—making it easy for non-drivers to stay connected to the people and places they love. Residents choose their own level of engagement, with a balance of comfort, a diverse circle of support structures, and creative neighbors.

After three years of searching for a place that truly felt like home for their loved one, our founders realized something important: many Portlanders want this kind of community, and it simply didn’t exist yet. So the circle grew. When allies couldn’t find it, they committed to building it—side-by-side with the artists and adults with disabilities who would live here.

That circle continued to expand. A visionary architect, an innovative general contractor, and mission-driven developers and investors joined the effort, all united by a shared belief in livability, belonging, and the power of inclusive housing.

Today, Belong Art Community is organized, governed, and managed to meet the needs and priorities of our developmental disability and artist residents. As a 501(c)(3) public charity, our mission is simple: create a place where people can live independently, express themselves freely, and truly feel that they belong.

Mission

Belong Art Community’s mission is to provide housing, educational, supportive services for developmentally disabled individuals that are seeking independence in a community that also includes neuro-typical artists and represents a diverse population.
